Rebecca is a Suzuki Violin Teacher with extensive training. (see bio for more info)
She teaches private lessons and group classes with the Ann Arbor Suzuki Institute, and in Chelsea a few days a week.
Parental involvement is crucial for beginners and children of a young age. Parents come to the lessons, take notes, and are involved in home practice as part of the Suzuki triangle between Teacher, Parent and Student.
(Recommended reading: Nurtured by Love by Dr. Suzuki)
As the child reaches middle school, more independent practice from the parent is encouraged and explored.
Rebecca works on not only how to play the violin, but also how to practice effectively and be able to memorize music, perform without anxiety, read music successfully and work on sightreading skills to help with orchestra and chamber music as the student enters middle and high school level.
There are 2-3 studio recitals per year- usually in November, March and June.
Group class activities include: Playing at the apple orchard in September, the Halloween Play-In Costume Class in October, Holiday concerts at the Mall and the Power Center, Pease Violin Concert at EMU in February, and the All Institute Hill Auditorium Concert in Ann Arbor in May.
Rebecca believes in teaching a love of music with a solid foundation in technique, note reading, music theory and sightreading. Lessons should be fun, but also rewarding from all the hard work and commitment to home practice every day during the week.
Contact her for more information regarding openings for lessons, or if you want to observe a lesson or group class, or do a trial lesson.
Group classes currently meet Tuesdays at Slauson Middle School in the Orchestra Room
4:30-5pm Book 1
5-5:30pm Book 2-3
(no group classes in the summer)
You can find Rebecca performing at weddings and events throughout the year, and teaching at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Suzuki Camp in June, Phoenix Phest in Ann Arbor in August, and occasionally volunteering to play at the hospital a few times a year.
